1. The Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology(COSTECH) Act. No. 7 of 1986

The Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) was established by the Act No. 7 of 1986, which repealed and replaced the Tanzania National Scientific Research Council Act of 1968, as the principal advisory organ of the Government on all matters relating to scientific research and technology development. 2.Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) Act No. 7 of 2003

The Act was enacted to establish the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission and to provide for its functions in relation to the control of use of ionizing and non ionizing radiation sources, the promotion of safe and peaceful uses of atomic energy and nuclear technology in Tanzania. 3. Dar Es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) Act No. 6 of 1997

The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) was established by the Parliament Act No. 6 of 1997 though upgrading and transformation of the then Dar es Salaam Technical College that had existed since 1957.For more information click here

4. Mbeya Institute of Science &Technology (MIST) Parliamentary resolution No. 5 of 2005

The Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) was established through a Parliamentary resolution No. 5 of 2005 by amending NACTE Act No. 9 of 1997 to upgrade and transform the then Mbeya Technical College to Institute of Science and Technology.For more information click here

 

5. Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority Act No. 12 of 2003

The Act was enacted to form a body for regulating telecommunications, broadcasting, postal services; provide for allocation and management of radio spectrum, covering electronic technologies and other Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) applications. The Act gives powers to authority to monitor the performance of regulated sectors, to facilitate the resolutions of complains and disputes and to consult with other regulatory authority, bodies or institutions discharging functions similar to those of the authority in United Republic of Tanzania and elsewhere; among others. 6. Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC)

Enacted by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania and provides that the Act may be cited as the Tanzania Posts Corporation Act, 1993 which came into operation on the 1st day of January, 1994. For more information about the policy click here

 

7.Tanzania Telecommunications Company Ltd (TTCL)

Tanzania Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) was liberalized 1993, using fibre optic, microwave and satellite based links, is now over 95% digital. This paves the way for allowing the provision of new services enabled by ICT. TTCL was privatized on 23 February 2001 to a consortium of mobile systems International (MSI) of Netherlands and DETECON of Germany which acquired 35% of shares and the remaining shares were owned by the Government of Tanzania. The monopoly of fixed network and arrangement of Board and Management Contract by MSI was finalized on 22 February 2005; and thereafter the company is now being operated by Independent Management Contractor from Canada Saskatel.For more information about the policy click here
